If you are on Facebook you need to know that there is a Phishing Attack taking place this week. I know because it happened to me. While I was have an absolutely delightful conversation with a celebrity friend of mine through Facebook instant messenger yesterday, an instant message pops up that tells me they are Facebook Security and that I am in danger of losing my Facebook account unless I verify my identity.
Well I didn’t believe that for one moment and I reported the instant message to Facebook immediately. This is what the message said, “Notice Block Facebook Account” We have received Feedback that your account may not be authentic. Facebook is a community where people share and interact using real identity. Please reconfirm your Facebook account below.”
Then there was the URL address that starts off with http: ://site-security-2.ucoz.lv/facebook/confirmation/data_account. I don't want to put the URL here in it's entirety or this program will turn it into a link and I don't want people clicking the link.
It also went on to say that if my account was not confirmed within 24 hours it would be removed from the system.
Needless to say it has been over 24 hours and my Facebook account has not been removed. I have had my Facebook account for over 5 years, I am a real person with 5,000 friend count on Facebook.
I think they may be targeting folks who have large friend counts to bust into those users accounts and have access to even more people. Tish Cyrus told me her account was hacked yesterday. Facebook will never instant message you about your identity.
If Facebook has a problem with you they will send an email to the email address they have listed for you or they will disable your account and make you prove you are you and give you back your account after that.
I have added the photo of the screen shot of my account as this attack was taking place. By the way, I went back to that instant message and clicked on the account today and that artwork of Facebook Security is totally gone and it looks like that person’s Facebook account was returned to normal. This Phishing is two sided, totally innocent people may get their accounts hacked into and be sending out these phony Facebook Security messages and they may be just as innocent as the people receiving the messages.
I didn’t click the link and I want to advise other people NOT to click the link either. I don’t know where the link would have taken me but I am sure it was nowhere good.
