A Michigan boy with Asperger’s syndrome is about to be one happy guy next month when he celebrates his 11th birthday. His mother has set up a special Facebook page in honor of his special day and as reported by The Detroit Free Press on Feb. 12, it has now gone viral with birthday wishes coming from all over the world.
When talking to her son, Colin, about what he wanted to do for his birthday, he told his mom that no one would show up for a party because he has no friends at school to attend. It seems that he is regularly made fun of by his school mates and therefore he decided that organizing a birthday party would be useless.
This got his mother, Jennifer, to show her son that he is not alone in this world. She set up a Facebook page thinking that she would get a few people to wish Colin a happy birthday to replace the party that wasn’t going to happen for him. She figured that this would be a better way of making Colin feel loved and supported.
“I created this page for my amazing, wonderful, challenging son who is about to turn 11 on March 9th,” she wrote on the Facebook page. “Because of Colin's disabilities, social skills are not easy for him, and he often acts out in school, and the other kids don't like him.”
She also said that he eats alone in the school’s office because the kids refuse to have Colin sit with him at lunch time. Having Asperger’s makes it difficult for these kids to communicate and interact with others. School kids, and even their parents, have no idea how to handle this condition and therefore excludes the Richland boy from their activities.
Thinking that the page would get maybe 100 likes on it, Jennifer has been overwhelmed with over 995,000 likes. So far, Colin does not know about this cool birthday surprise. She has no idea just how she will present Colin with the surprise but he is sure to be more than thrilled. His loneliness that he feels now will be replaced with lots of love from all over the place,
If you would like to wish this special guy a happy birthday, head on over to the Facebook page and help make his day a memorable one.
