In nearby Mountain City, Tennessee, a couple is dead because they unfriended the wrong person. A woman's father murdered the couple, leaving their infant alive in the mother's arms, because they unfriended his daughter on Facebook. You can read about that story here on The Tennessean.
When you click that button to unfriend someone, do you realize the hurt feelings that will probably result? Maybe there is a lesson here that we should be very careful who we "friend" in the first place.
Have you ever been unfriended? How did you feel? There are several scenarios that might clue you in on the situation:
- You arrive at the person's Facebook page and there is an "Add Friend" button. (They unfriended you.)
- You realize the person has disappeared completely from Facebook, even the search. (This means you have been totally blocked!)
- You go to their wall and only see limited information, but appear to still be "friends." (This means they have used custom settings to limit what you see.)
Most people who are confronted with unfriending someone will deny knowledge of the whole thing, blaming it on a Facebook system glitch. You know, that might be a good idea!
