After denying the rumors for months, the truth came out today: Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn are dating.
It was a Facebook moment for the celebrity golfer and skier. The news was released simultaneously on their Facebook pages, where the couple shared a few photos.
“I guess it wasn’t a well-kept secret but yes, I am dating Tiger Woods,” Vonn wrote on her Facebook page. “Our relationship evolved from a friendship into something more over these past few months and it has made me very happy.”
She’s happy, but doesn’t want to discuss it any further. No doubt questions will persist for both Vonn and Woods.
“I don't plan on addressing this further as I would like to keep that part of my life between us, my family and close friends,” Vonn, 28, added.
Tiger confirms he’s dating Vonn
Woods, 37, has been linked to the famed U.S. skier since December 2012 when speculation had the two dating.
“Lindsey and I have been friends for some time, but over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating,” Woods had on his Facebook page. “We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy. We want to continue our relationship, privately, as an ordinary couple and continue to compete as athletes."
Vonn sidestepped Woods question on Today Show
On an interview in late February with Matt Lauer of the “Today Show,” Vonn sidestepped a question regarding Woods. Vonn told Lauer that she prefers keeping her private life private, which only fuels the rumors.
Vonn suffering a knee injury after a fall at the 2013 World Championships in Schlamading, Austria.
She reportedly flew back to Vail, Colo. on Woods' private jet and underwent surgery on Feb. 5, which her doctor, Bill Sterett, pronounced a success.
Vonn was airlifted off the slopes, following the fall, and doctors discovered she had torn anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments and a lateral tibial plateau fracture.
Vonn remains in rehab mode and is highly optimistic that she’ll not only be back on the ski slopes and will be ready for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She vows it won’t be the end of her skiing career.
On the Today Show, Vonn showed Lauer her surgical scars on her knee, noting a screw and a pin have been placed there to hold the bone together.
Speculation began in December
Celebrity pairings are often headline news and tremendous fodder for tabloid journalists. The rumors titillate the masses, which enjoy the gossip that envelops around today’s celebrities.
One of the more surprising rumors came in late January and involved Woods and Vonn, an attractive blond who looks as good off the slopes as she does racing down a steep ski run.
Vonn, who has lucrative endorsements and celebrity status, was quick to address the rumors. But note that a statement from her publicist – Lewis Kay – neither denied nor confirmed any relationship with Woods.
“Lindsey is currently in the midst of the World Cup season in Europe,” the statement read earlier this year. “Her focus is solely on competing and on defending her titles and thus she will not participate in any speculation surrounding her personal life at this time.”
Here’s a stunner! Woods didn’t utter a word to the media regarding any relationship with Vonn. No surprise there; that’s definitely his style. Tiger Woods has always been tight-lipped regarding his personal life for a long time, no matter what the circumstances, on or off the golf course.
Woods’ cheating ended his marriage
Of course, Woods is famous for one other thing besides his golf game. He became America’s “serial cheater” when he was exposed in 2009 of having numerous hook-ups with women all over the world.
As we all know, it ended badly for Woods. His marriage to Elin Nordegren imploded privately and publicly after that infamous crash in his Florida front yard on Thanksgiving night signaled the start of this huge celebrity scandal.
They certainly have one thing in common – Tiger Woods likes to ski and that’s obviously Vonn’s passion.
In December, when it was first speculated that Woods and Vonn were dating, Vonn gave this comment to the Denver Post.
“We are just friends,” Vonn said after her second World Cup downhill victory at Lake Louise, Alberta.
Skiing brought Vonn, Woods together
Vonn said that her brother, a ski instructor in Vail, was giving Tiger’s two children (Sam, 5, and Charlie, 2) ski lessons. Another report said that Lindsey Vonn was also giving the two Woods children lessons, a suggestion that makes sense if she is indeed dating Woods.
Woods and Vonn dating was quite a juicy rumor. But it wasn’t the first one for Vonn, who like Woods, has also been married one time. Over the past year, Vonn was reportedly involved with another athlete – Tim Tebow – that in hindsight looks to be untrue.
“Lindsey is just friends with the Tebow family. Anyone who is trying to suggest any more to their relationship is wrong,” a Vonn representative told the famed New York Post’s Page Six.
