Facebook Messages service announced

Today Facebook Messages was announced.  Rumors spread after fb.com was purchased last week by Facebook.  However, on AllFacebok.com, the messages service has an upgrade available – Email.

Asking users if they would like a Facebook Email account now, the announcement confirms what all the rumors discussed last week.  Facebook now wants to compete with Gmail and the likes.  Yet, they continue to state it is not email.  Facebook is consistent with its inconsistencies like this.

Even after a survey announced that almost 51% of Gmail users would not switch from Gmail to Facebook for e-mail, Facebook created email.

So, the question is, would you switch?  Will you create a Facebook email account?  Most of my Phoenix Facebook friends weren't aware of any Facebook announcement.

Facebook announced this morning they were launching the “Social Inbox,” but instead a chat of sorts.

Andrew Bosworth stated, “In essence this should be extremely simple, we should just have a person and a message. You username will be your public email address. However this system is not email. Instead, we’ve modeled this much more after chat. We’re not launching email.”  He went on to say, “We’re giving people an @facebook.com email address,” says Bosworth. The address is entirely optional for users who wish to sign up."

Sounds like an email platform to me.  But, the rumored "fb.com" domain purchase is not being mentioned with this new "social inbox."

Click here to read the announcement directly from AllFacebook.com and upgrade your messaging system now.

Check back soon as I’m sure to have training on any “Facebook Email” available.
