In a bizarre “Facebook dead” prank that is much easier to pull off than it probably should be, people across the nation are finding out that friends and family members have killed them in the virtual world, making it appear that they’ve been wacked "Sopranos" style on Facebook.
In a new post by Buzz Feed, which they preface by literally saying, “WARNING: Don't do this. It's at the very least a pain in the a** for your friends,” the article written by Katie Notopoulos lays out in explicit detail how to knock ‘em dead on Facebook.
The problem, of course, is that it’s not just a silly prank. While a friend may memorialize you on Facebook, the joke also locks you out of your Facebook account.
In an article that breaks down how Katie killed one of her co-workers on Facebook, she says she first filled out a “Memorialization Request.”
Second, she found a real-life obituary of a person who had her co-worker’s first and last name.
“The details of this obituary don't match up at all - this guy is way older, and lives in Nebraska instead of New York.,” wrote Katie.
“Even worse, the names aren't even spelled the same,” she added.
From there, it appears the Facebook prank was surprisingly complete, as Kate mentions that when the perfectly alive and well co-worker attempted to log into their Facebook account, they receive a message that says “Account Inaccessible.”
