It did not take long for the parodies to start rolling out about Facebook Home. It also did not take long for reports to confirm Facebook adding ads to the Home screen. In fact, the social network has their eye on launching their first major marketing campaign to target consumers on their mobile devices. However, there is no confirmed date on when the ads will integrate into Facebook Home.
Facebook Home will be available on April 12 to a limited number of Android devices. In 2012, Android mobile phones held a 53 percent market share among smartphone users. By Facebook implementing ad space, this will unlock a significant revenue opportunity. According to eMarketer, this new revenue channel can reach $1.53 billion this year.
That is up from $470.7 million in 2012. However, these ad placements may take some convincing to Android users. This marketing campaign will utilize Facebook ad products such as the mobile news-feed ads and log-out ads.
AdAge reported today that the social network is expected to launch their first marketing campaign with Wieden & Kennedy from Portland, Ore. They made a television spot that is set to broadcast this month. Rebecca Van Dyck, Facebook’s head of consumer marketing, is in charge of the creatives for this campaign. In the past, Van Dyck was on the marketing team for the iPhone launch.
If this comes widely adopted, it could provide a rich stream of data about the app activities a user performs on their smartphone.
