Facebook changes homepage to celebrate 6th anniversary and 400 million users. Facebook passed the 400 million user mark yesterday and they are celebrating their 6th year anniversary.
Facebook has changed their homepage several times, but this time it was changed to celebrate their 6th anniversary. This latest change in the homepage design should help users navigate the site a little easier.
Jing Chen, a Facebook engineer had this to say on his Facebook blog post: "We think sharing information about the applications you use enriches the shared experience between you and your friends." "We hope the simplified design of the home page will make it easy for you to stay connected with the people, applications and activities that matter the most to you."
Links have been added to the left side of the screen that includes messages, events, applications and photos. Clicking on the friends link will suggest more friends and an option to search for someone on Facebook. Clicking on applications will allow you to see what applications your friends are using and give you suggestions.
"We feel strongly that control is an important element of any information sharing on Facebook," wrote Chen. "That's why these features are launching with an entirely new privacy setting. If you would rather not have your recent application activity visible in the dashboards to your friends, you can change this through your Privacy settings. We're also working on a more granular set of controls for specific applications, so that you can turn off activity for certain applications while leaving it on for others. We'll have more information to share on this soon."
Comments left on Chen's blog page from Facebook users are mixed; some love the new look and others don’t.
