“Breastfeeding Mama Talk,” a Facebook group ran by Christie Kemp, was shut down due to the photos posted there. The photos were of mothers breastfeeding their children. According to an April 6 report by Travelers Today, Facebook considered those photographs to be inappropriate.
Facebook policy does not allow any “pornographic material or sexually explicit content” to be posted. It appears that Facebook considers breastfeeding to be either pornographic or sexually explicit.
“I saw a photo of a man wearing nothing but a sock-like thing on his penis,” Deidre Malcolm, a breastfeeding mother from Oklahoma City, said. “That was gross. There is nothing pornographic or sexually explicit of a mom breastfeeding their babies. Facebook is messed up if they think there is.”
“Breastfeeding Mama Talk” has since been put back on Facebook. An apology was sent to Christie Kemp, stating an “error” caused her Facebook group to be removed from the website.
