It's no secret that most potential employers check out your online profile before they contact you for an interview. As a human resources professional, it is imperative that you establish a LinkedIn account for individuals like me and recruiters to have the ability to find and view your professional background. LinkedIn is a business social networking platform and the “Go-To” source for recruiters and hiring managers. If you have a photo attached to your LinkedIn account you want it to be the best professional shot that you have. It isn’t necessary to go to a professional photographer, just ensure that your photo is clear, simple and business like. More importantly, your professional profile photo should look appealing to recruiters.

Do you have the right professional profile photo to help land the job? To help you in putting together a great professional online profile, Style Expert, George Kotsiopoulos has put together a list of Dos and Don’ts for a professional profile photo. Kotsiopoulos along with Aussie, COVERGIRL, Gillette and Olay Fresh Effects have teamed up with LinkedIn to help define your professional online identity allowing you to confidently “Face the World.” George Kotsiopoulos shares his tips and tricks:

Do - Choose a plain white backdrop or a non-distracting nature scene. Avoid busy backgrounds.

Don’t - Wear something overly formal or overly casual. Ditch the suit jackets and t-shirts. You want to come across as confident and approachable, not formal and stiff.

Do - Wear a clean & crisp button-down shirt in a solid color or a non-distracting print (e.g., muted striped or checked pattern).

Do - Smile!

Don’t - Include a silhouette or profile of your face. Look directly at the camera — this angle will allow you to come across as approachable and confident to recruiters.
