It appears that Lionhead Studios has some fairly lofty goals in mind for the future of Fable Legends on the Xbox One. The developer will be treating the next installment of the role-playing series much like an MMO in terms of planning to support the title with new content for a growing community as studio head, John Needham, told GamesIndustry.biz in an interview on Sept 13.
In fact, Lionhead has confirmed that their plan is to provide the means for gamers to want to play the game for up to ten years by providing new updates that continue to evolve the world of Albion.
Needham also revealed that there was a very specific reason in naming the upcoming title Fable Legends rather than Fable 4. The reasoning behind the decision didn’t come from a desire to separate the new game from the series’ past entries but to better illustrate that Fable Legends hopes to bring new elements to the franchise such as the ability to play with up to three additional friends or even take on the role of the game’s villain who works to thwart the four heroes.
Fable Legends will introduce four new protagonists to the world of Albion. Players will choose which one of these existing heroes they will play as. The remaining three will either become AI companions ore can be controlled by fellow gamers in online co-op. A fifth player can also take on the role of a villain who can spawn minions, traps, and more to create a unique experience that the heroes must overcome.
