Heading to Maui this summer and want to plan a perfect evening? Stop for happy hour at Peter Merriman’s Monkeypod and dinner at Fabiani’s. The two popular spots occupy space in the same Wailea Gateway Center, steps from each other. Both served great food, buy Monkeypod’s the place for pre-dinner drinking during happy hour from 3 to 5:30 p.m. with big discounts on cocktails, wine and beer.
The bar at Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman is typically packed with young locals and tourists of all ages, eagerly digging into signature wood fired pizzas, burgers, Merriman’s famous poke tacos and house cut fries and other yummy dishes. In addition to some of the best food in the islands, the bar boasts 36 beers on tap that are kept at a temperature of 29 degrees (there’s a thermometer to prove it. There’s also a selection of those trendy tropical cocktails that are so popular among the young, and a good wine list (popular with the Diva).
We shared a mushroom pizza appetizer ($9) along with adult beverages before walking over to our newest dining discovery, Fabiani’s. We actually found it on Yelp where posts were all favorable and after a Caesar salad, two superb osso bucco entrees (for a steal at $29 each ($13)), and a luscious lasagna we agreed. The service was efficient, friendly and typically Italian hospitable.
