F1 tornado touches down in Walworth & Racine Counties

Racine and Walworth Counties suffered torando's that touched down in both counties. Severe weather ripped through the Town of Linn, in Walworth County Monday, claiming houses and buildings in its viscous path.

There were no casualties or fatalities, but four houses and three barns suffered extensive, structural damage.

A storm cell that originated in Northern Illinois moved its way across the Wisconsin border unleashing its fury in both Walworth and Racine Counties.

In Walworth County the surge produced torrential rains and high winds. According to WalCo Sheriff David Graves, the storm hit at approximately 3:09 p.m. starting in Linn Township and finally ending in Zenda.

Town of Linn Chairman Jim Weiss said, “We are asking for all individuals to stay out of the area. We have power lines down, at this time, with utility crews on the scene. Crews are working to ensure the protection of property and some road closures are to be expected. At this time we have no report of injuries or fatalities.”

Alliant Energy crews worked with the aid of the Wisconsin State Patrol and local law enforcement officials to close off roads that were affected by the downed utility wires.

At a press conference held at the Zenda Public Works building, Town of Linn Police Chief Dennis Wisniewski said, “ We have four house that have been damaged, three barns, and power lines down. We have officers checking out the area a little bit more Northeast to make sure we don't have any more damage.”

The storm appears to have originated on Lakeville Road, in Linn, to the public works building in Zenda. The National Weather Service is currently surveying the area to determine what kind of storm occurred or if an actual tornado did touch down.
