Escape the malls tonight with some retro Hollywood glam, as the MFA pays tribute to legendary costume designer – and eight-time-Oscar-winner – Edith Head. Or stroll by the Mobius gallery in the South End to take a gander at what those kooky artists have cooked up for their holiday window display.
"The Costumes of Edith Head, 1941-1958” features 10 of her films. Playing today are This Gun for Hire starring Veronica Lake, and the Olivia de Havilland vehicles To Each His Own, and The Heiress. And there will be plenty more cocktail dresses to pine for in the films that round out the series, including: Rear Window, To Catch a Thief, Sunset Boulevard, Vertigo, and A Place in the Sun. Afterwards, swing by Vintage Revenge in Harvard Square if you’re still in need of a New Year’s Eve outfit.
