President Obama spoke today at a Ford auto plant in Liberty, Mo. The Daily Caller reported the president once again stepped up the partisan rhetoric, accusing Republicans of wanting to “send the economy into a tailspin” and wanting to deny Americans health insurance coverage. This latest divisive and partisan speech by Obama followed just minutes after a vote in Congress to defund ObamaCare.
In the same speech, Obama said Republicans “will send our economy into a tailspin...just to make sure that tens of millions of Americans continue not to have health care...they're holding the whole country hostage.” He further suggested Republicans would “plunge America into default” if they couldn't defund ObamaCare.
President Obama noted the 40 times the Republican majority has voted to repeal the unpopular ObamaCare legislation, calling those attempts “failed” without noting the only reason they “failed” is the lack of a schedule vote in the Democrat-run Senate, where Majority Leader Harry Reid has yet to schedule a single vote on repealing ObamaCare, for fear that a coalition of Republicans and moderate Democrats might pass a repeal bill.
The Daily Caller article notes that Obama's comments about default are related to some Republicans opposing raising the debt ceiling, which allows the federal government to borrow more money for deficit spending. The Obama Administration has added another $6 trillion to the $11 trillion it inherited from all previous presidents. By the end of his second term as president, the national debt will likely have doubled from the $11 trillion incurred by all previous presidential administrations before this current administration.
Obama told the autoworkers in Liberty, Mo. “tell Congress – pay our bills on time.” But that is the problem, we have racked up $17 trillion in debt because we don't pay our bills, and some are suggesting we should stop spending money we don't have, and therefore no vote to once against raise the debt ceiling and authorize more deficit spending.
Sadly, when the times require politicians to work together to find workable common-sense solutions, all we get from the president is the same divisive, partisan, and negative rhetoric that we've been getting from this president.
