If you associate dieting with deprivation, the August 27 edition of "Extreme Weight Loss" proved you wrong. Featuring former sports star Cassandra, the show revealed how you can enjoy tasty food while losing big. Read on for the highlights of the episode.
At 364 pounds, Cassandra feels angry with herself for gaining so much weight after having been a national sports superstar. She isolates in her home, only going to her job as a guidance counselor at a school and then eating alone in bed each night. Getting up her courage to change, Cassandra seeks help from Chris Powell. Her entire school rejoices with her as, in a public show of support, they help Chris announce that he has chosen her for the year of transformation. Elated, Cassandra heads off with Chris to learn to exercise and eat right.
But there's more to shedding pounds than diet and exercise, and that "something else" is the element for which Chris, author of "Chris Powell's Choose More, Lose More for Life", has become famed. Chris helps Cassandra regain her confidence in herself and pride in her ability to succeed. Also guiding her through the process of losing weight: Chef Rocco DiSpirito, author of "Now Eat This! Italian: Favorite Dishes from the Real Mamas of Italy--All Under 350 Calories."
The emotional finale shows Cassandra in the school gym, greeted with cheers from her students. As she steps on the scale, her hopes and dreams come true: She weighs 189 pounds, a total loss of 175 pounds. And the expression on her face says it all: Cassandra has surrendered her feelings of failure as successfully as she shed pounds.
