On Thursday, December 15, 2011, ABC announced that the popular series, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will end its nine-year run on January 13, 2012. The show’s 200th episode will feature the seven homes the program built for victims of the May 22nd tornado in Joplin - the largest project ever tackled by the long-running series.
In October of 2011, show host Ty Pennington and thousands of volunteers labored for seven days building seven houses for families whose homes were destroyed in the tornado. One home has already been revealed on “Good Morning America”, but the six remaining “Move that Bus!” moments will be presented on the series finale.
In addition to the seven homes that were built by the show, the producers also presented a mobile art center to Art Feeds, a non-profit organization that provides art therapy to children both in Joplin and in an orphanage in Ghana. The bus’s state-of-the-art interior will also be formally revealed on the January 13th show.
Extreme Makeover seeks to build homes for families who have been met with unfortunate, and sometimes tragic, circumstances. The show also endeavors to provide assistance to families and organizations, such as foster parents and teen shelters, who have opened their homes and hearts to help others.
In Joplin, the series finale will air on Friday, January 13, 2012, at 7 p.m. on KODE, channel 12.
