An extra, driving her own car as part of a stunt sequence on Michael Bay's "Transformers 3," suffered serious head injuries when the stunt went wrong, according to numerous sources. The accident happened on Wednesday during the movie's current northwest Indiana location shooting. Deadline Hollywood says that Gabriella Cedillo, age 24, of Chicago, was driving her own Toyota during a stunt sequence involving multiple vehicles. Cedillo, who is not a stunt professional and was not a part of the stunt team, was apparently driving her own vehicle, which was being towed by another vehicle. Some news reports have quoted another extra on the scene as saying that the steel cable between the two vehicles broke, then whipped around, sliced through Cedillo's car and cut her head.
According to On Location Vacations, Cedillo was airlifted to the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, for treatment.
I contacted Paramount Pictures for comment, and was informed by a receptionist that the entire public relations department had been given Friday as well as Monday off for the holiday weekend, and that no one was available for comment until Tuesday. The receptionist was unaware of whether or not a press release had been issued.
A spokesperson for Loyola University Medical Center Maywood stated that the center did not have the "appropriate permission from the patient's family" to disclose any information regarding Ms. Cedillo or her condition.
