Externalizing Perception

“The fool feels the foot when it feels the ground.” ~ Buddha

A rock in the shoe, or shoes that are too small. Engaging in the process of Earthing, walking outside barefoot in order to connect with the planet, wincing and exclaiming over every little pebble and twig stepped on.

Traveling through life concentrated within, highlighting every slight, every perceived rejection, harboring ill-will toward others and constantly reminiscing over past hurts and traumas. Perceiving every insult as personal, interpreting every conversation as having to do with you, walking down the street lost in thought and oblivious to your surroundings, being physically present during a conversation but being distant, your mind elsewhere.

These are symptoms of "feeling the foot when it feels the ground". These are symptoms of living the life of a fool.

A fool in this instance is someone who chooses not to open up to the world, to expand perception to encompass the external, instead forgoing experience in favor of constant rumination. Of traversing life lost in a cloud of one's own illusory perceptions.

The remedy for such a path is the meditative state.

Stilling the chorus of thoughts that constantly threaten one's equilibrium. Going beyond and beneath the waterfall of impressions that leave the external world distant from the nexus of perception, that leaves the Experiencer experience-less, in that the outer world passes by without remark, while the inner world receives all of the attention.

Time and practice results in a state of peaceful equinimity, Shamatha Meditation and the cultivation of inner stillness reveals the wondrous beauty of the Now moment, the peerless perfection of existence in its very essential character as the natural state of humankind.

What choice will you make? To concentrate upon your foot or the ground beneath it?

Choose wisely.
