The new show “Extant” premiered last night. Astronaut Molly Woods -Halle Berry- has just returned home after a 13 month solo trip to outer space, her son just 11 years old from the get go seems odd and aloof. Her husband is a scientist, engrossed in his work and a bit harsh on his young son; -soon it is found out why this stern attitude is necessary-.
They boy is called a Humanich, not a robot, however, engineered being with artificial intelligence designed for those who like Woods and her husband cannot conceive children of their own. This show tends to bore at times, and then brings viewers back, and Molly finds herself pregnant despite being in space for more than a year alone and physically unable to as well. But she has flashbacks of a being only she could see that suddenly appeared on board her space ship, occurrences take place such as the man in charge of the mission interested in 70 minutes worth of recording missing from the ship’s data. Hiroyuki Sanada is a multimillionaire who had invested money in Molly’s trip and knows well that there is more to her and her trip than what she is letting anyone know.
A man who was presumed dead comes to Molly and advises her not to trust anyone, her son at moments seem out of control and glimpses are given of a violent nature the kid has, however, keeps hidden from all around him. This show brings up many questions, it presumably takes place several years in the future and technological advances are shown which to say are fascinating is putting it lightly, also brings up several ethical questions such as: what will happen if machines created by men, become unaware of themselves and proceed to destroy man?
