Admission to the California Science Center, where you can view more than 100 stimulating exhibits, is free from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. You can also purchase tickets to Pompeii: The Exhibition for about $20. This special exhibit showcases over 150 precious artifacts on loan from the Naples National Archaeological Museum in Italy, providing a peek at the luxurious lifestyle and tragic end of this ancient Roman society. Rather see Endeavour? Be aware that timed reservations for this popular exhibit are required, and there is a minimal $2 reservation fee per person. Plan ahead, and reserve now!
The California African American Museum (CAAM) is free from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Join the all ages workshop with Theresa Tolliver at noon, or peruse the galleries. Hours are extended with a holiday program from 6-8 p.m. on CAAM's outdoor plaza stage. Comedian D'Lai co-hosts the patriotic show with Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter. Hear Darynn Dean sing, see ventriloquist Aaron Williams and his sidekick Freddie perform, and listen to singer Ileana Garcia and musician Cliff Beach and his band. CAAM will even save you a seat on their lawn for the fireworks.
Beginning at noon, KJLH will present live entertainment on Christmas Tree Lane, east of the Coliseum. Pack a picnic, spread out beneath the sky, and enjoy the event, which culminates with spectacular bombs bursting in air - a.k.a. fireworks - around 9 p.m.
