Boutique fitness isn't just growing aggressively in markets like New York City or Los Angeles. Washington D.C. is getting a taste of the specialized workouts scene. Here are a few we've tried, tested and recommend:

Solid Core - Think: Pilates reformer on drugs. The megaformer workout is focused on strength training and toning as well as muscle endurance. Solid Core's exercises are done in four counts -- so even though you want to move a little faster because it burns, you have to slow it down. You start off warming up with core activation exercises and pretty much work every body part throughout the 50 minutes. Your muscles will eventually fatigue with high repetitions. Don't worry thought -- you'll be distracted by the awesome playlist! Currently, there are two locations for Solid Core. Note: Walking the next day may be tough.

Jaime Andrews Fitness - Jaime offers a high-intensity interval training format for her bootcamps. The format of the class is usually posted the night before but you can expect that it will include a variety of squats, push-ups, burpees, and other cardio related exercises. In addition to the bootcamp, Jaime has also recently launched FitnEscapes. Why not take the workout on vacation with you?? Trips are all-inclusive and offer a variety of fitness classes, outdoor activities, adventures, healthy eating, and wellness planning.

Biker Barre - Hybrid workout studios are all the craze now! Biker Barre, located on Capitol Hill, offers cycling and barre classes. Though the classes are separate, no one is stopping you from taking them back-to-back! For the more advanced riders, their cycling classes have three different offerings. Bike: Ride is a signature 45-minute class, Bike: Tabata is high-intensity cycling experience with sprints and rests, and Bike: Trip is a 60-minute ride. Their Barre classes include Advanced Barre, Mini Barre (same intensity in 3/4 the time), and the traditional Barre 101. Looks like there's something for everyone!

In addition to these exciting fitness studios, the fitness scene is also expanding with events. On April 5th, shape up with InTheCapital at DC Fit!
