Visit the gravesite of Washington Irving, author of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, and other historical figures such as Elizabeth Arden, Andrew Carnegie, Walter Chrysler, and William Rockefeller at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. On a guided tour guests will explore the cemetery’s art and architecture and its famous and infamous residents. There are day and evening tours. Check the fall schedules on the web site for dates and times. Advanced reservations are required.
You can also take a self-guided tour which includes a full-color 17 x 20 map which is an indispensable guide to more than 50 special attractions within the cemetery. Guests may purchase the map at the cemetery office during business hours. (Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM—closed major holidays) Maps are also available on the website. There are also free printed maps at the cemetery gate.
Two hour tours are $19.99 and a one hour tour is $9.99.

The Original Knickerbocker—Washington Irving & the Legend of Sleepy Hollow tour traces the footsteps of Washington Irving’s most famous character—Ichabod Crane in “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”—as we walk to the author’s final resting place. You will learn more about the talented Mr. Irving and his influence on popular culture today. Guests will also enter the cemetery’s 113-year old receiving vault, stop at a Revolutionary War monument, visit wealthy industrialists, as well as admire the cemetery’s lovely art and architecture during this one-hour walking tour.
You can also take an evening guided tour for $24.99. Advance reservations required. Their classic evening lantern tours introduce you to some of the famous and infamous residents of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. After paying respects to Washington Irving, author of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” guests may visit a Revolutionary War militia captain, the cemetery’s Revolutionary War monument, the soaring Gothic monument of a wealthy merchant, industrialists Andrew Carnegie and William Rockefeller, and much more!. The tour also tries to introduce some of the cemetery art and architecture on the grounds, and the tour almost always steps into the cemetery’s 113-year-old underground receiving vault.
