Feeling like telling the rest of the world why Canada is such a great place to visit? There is an app for that!

The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) recently launched a new interactive social media trip planner. Dubbed “Explore Canada Like a Local,” the tool works as a comprehensive guide allowing locals and travellers alike to share information on their favorite Canadian spots and “insider” travel tips.

Explore Canada Like a Local builds upon CTC's successful 2009-2010 LOCALS KNOW ad campaign and combines real-time location-based data provided by Foursquare, Yelp and Gowalla.

Users can create their online itineraries based on recommendations by theme, destination and travel lists from other users, and take them on the road with them, thanks to the app for iPhone or Android smartphones. They can also share their “check-ins” on social networks and directly on the website, as well as submit their photos, videos and tips, and suggest new venues.

"This dynamic new tool allows for locals and travellers to Canada to serve as advocates, and lets potential visitors be inspired and gain valuable, authentic information on itineraries in Canada," says Gloria Loree, CTC executive director, Global Communications.

Explore Canada Like a Local is the result of a partnership between marketing communications agency DDB Canada and Tribal DDB Vancouver, one of its integrated groups. Tribal DDB also worked with Xomo Digital Inc. to build the app.
