City council must feel ever so powerful when they walk up to a small business owner and tell them that they cannot display a banner outside their business or tell them to remove a U. S. flag. It must give them a great sense of power. But why is it, that when they are approached with a real problem such as Spencer’s having sex position books openly available to young clientele, they take no action.
When the store clerk of Denton’s Spencers was approached, she admitted that they had been approached in other cities with protests about their merchandise. Nonetheless, she stated that since other bookstores in Denton where able to openly display books of this type, so could they? Never mind that their customers are the under aged youths of Denton.
So where are the social constructionists on this issue? They, who are so determined to outlaw smoking in a public restaurant and now they want to attack e-cigs and vapor pipes because they can. But when there are moral issues, they step back? Why haven’t they passed a city ordinance against this?
