Experts weigh in on the red carpet hits, misses and trends at the 2013 Oscars (Photos)

On Jan. 25, “Live with Kelly & Michael” aired live from Dolby Theatre, the very stage on which the 2013 Oscars wrapped up just hours before. Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan shared red carpet exclusives and backstage interviews with TV viewers on Monday morning. In addition, three fashion experts weighed in and reviewed the red carpet hits, misses and trends at the 2013 Academy Awards.

For the fashion segment, “Live” turned to Carson Kressley, Maria Menounos and Lawrence Zarian. Kressley was one of the hosts of the Bravo hit “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.” Beauty pageant contestant Maria Menounos competed on “Dancing with the Stars” and has reported for “Today,” “Access Hollywood,” and “Extra.” Lawrence Zarian has been a fashion expert on “Live” for the past ten years.

Carson Kressley picked Halle Berry as his best dressed celebrity at the 2013 Oscars. “It really stood out,” he said of her modern deco column dress by Atelier Versace with the plunging neckline. Maria Menounos chose Jessica Chastain as her red carpet favorite. “It’s a very ‘Happy birthday, Mr. President’ dress,” Chastain told Ryan Seacrest on Sunday. Armani Prive designed the stunning copper-colored strapless gown. Menounos complimented Chastain by saying, “I thought she was absolutely stunning.” Jane Fonda was Lawrence Zarain's red carpet favorite. Her lemon yellow Versace gown flattered the 70-year-old's curves brilliantly. “Jane has a banging body,” Zarin told Kelly Ripa.

Concerning red carpet trends at the 2013 Oscars, all three fashion experts agreed that “shimmer and shine” was the number one trend for women. Beards was the top trend for the men. Bradley Cooper, Ben Affleck and George Clooney all sported beards at the 2013 Academy Awards. In addition to Halle Berry, Jessica Chastain and Jane Fonda, “Live’s” fashion experts also loved the red carpet looks of Stacy Keibler, Michelle Obama, Jennifer Hudson and Nicole Kidman.

Over on “Today,” expert Giuliana Rancic reviewed the fashion hits and misses at the 2013 Academy Awards. Concerning trends in 2013, she said that Armani Prive was dominant on the red carpet, but added, “There really was no one trend. It was kind of all over the place.” Rancic, who sported a new short haircut at the 2013 Oscars, loved Jessica Chastain. “That dress was tailored to perfection,” she stated. She also liked Naomi Watts’ bold choice and explained, “It was modern, edgy and cool. The risk paid off.” Giuliana’s big red carpet miss was Anne Hathaway, who changed her Valentino dress to one by Prada at the last minute. Her dress had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction on the red carpet, but the star beamed when she picked up her Supporting Actress Oscar.
