Sports promotes an active lifestyle that keeps athletes physically fit. But it also promotes disciplined regimens that can accelerate business success. Athletes who have applied these time tested principals to build business careers will share their insights with Southern California business leaders at a special event organized by the Harvard Business School Alumni Association of Orange County on May 29. Registration is open to the entire business community and there are many good reasons to attend.

This special program is titled “Life and Leadership Lessons Learned in Sports Used in Business.” Its goal is to show how sports experience can enhance leadership skills and the drive to succeed. The panelists are former athletes who are now business leaders who will share their recommendations for successful careers:

David Saad has achieved distinction as a world-class judo champion and as a nationally ranked tennis player on the USTA senior tour. In the business community, he is best known as a serial entrepreneur who has been the founding CEO of 5 start-ups, including 4 software companies and a hip hop, R&B and rap music label.

Sasha Poljak attended Pepperdine University on an athletic scholarship, was honored as most valuable player and subsequently pursued his business career goals with the same dedication that helped make him a world champion in sports. He excelled at sales and became Vice President of Sales for corporate employers and then applied his experience as an investor and board member in early-stage companies.

NFL veteran Steve Beuerlein was on a winning SuperBowl team with the Dallas Cowboys after a stellar NCAA football career. His career after retiring from football has been equally spectacular. He currently works both as an NFL analyst-commentator for CBS Sports and as a Vice President with Willis Insurance Services.

John Quinn was ranked a Division 1 All-American and Academic All-American as a student at the U.S. Naval Academy. He is one of many local business leaders who acquired business and customer service acumen in a corporate career at Disney. Now he shares his expertise with clients at a consultancy called Lucas Group.

This program is scheduled for May 29 at 5:30 p.m. in Irvine. The form to register is online at this link. May 29 is also the opening of the Dana Point Harbor Boat Show, making this a good time to check on the latest advances in sports business in Orange County.
