Kathleen M. Zelman, MPH, RD, LD has written for WebMD if you burn 500 more calories than you eat every day for a week, than you should lose about one to two pounds. In order to lose weight faster, you'll need to eat less and exercise more. Doctors Health Press has reported on Jan. 11, 2013, Four Key Tips for Losing Weight. Generally it appears only two in 10 people have long-term success losing weight. Weight loss experts at Loyola University have offered four tips to help you lose weight.
First, you should realistically estimate calories. Many of us greatly underestimate our caloric intake. A lot of foods have hidden calories. It is therefore important to keep an accurate food diary so that you become aware of the calories you’ve consumed. And in order to lower the impact of calories, you should have reasonable portion sizes, and even use measuring cups if necessary. Also, remember, if you are eating in a restaurant or grabbing takeout food, it will carry a greater number of calories. And you should also avoid thinking you’ve burned more calories than you actually have.
Furthermore, exercise is critically important. But, be careful not to overestimate the number of calories you burn. This could make you relax a little and eat more at dinner. Overall, you’ll have to cut 500 calories a day from your diet in order to lose one pound each week. Exercise alone will not accomplish this. It is a good idea to set a solid goal of getting at least 30 minutes of physical activity six days a week. And is is very important o combine exercise with low-calorie meals.
In order to keep your metabolism going strong, it is a good idea to take in glucose (sugar) throughout the day. With that consideration, breakfast should be within an hour of waking up. After every three hours or so you should have a healthy snack or meal. If you allow five hours to pass without a healthy snack, your metabolism will slow down and calories won’t get burned.
It is also important to sleep well at night. People who get less than six hours of sleep a night are facing more trouble. These people tend to have more ghrelin flowing in their bodies. Gherlin is a hormone which stimulates appetite. These people also have more cortisol, which is a stress hormone that can contribute to weight gain.
