The first laboratory confirmation that the Big Bang theory is absolutely correct was reported at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf website on Aug. 27, 2014. Dr. Michael Anders and an international team of scientists are the first to show that the amount of lithium produced under laboratory conditions that reproduce the conditions that existed moments after the Big Bang occurred are in agreement with the theoretical amount of lithium that should be produced. The research also brings into question recent observations of higher than normal amounts of lithium in some stars.

The Big Bang began with hot plasma containing protons, neutrons, electrons and all the subatomic particles that make up matter. The basic particles of matter are thought to have collided with each other at sufficient speeds to produce low atomic weight elements including lithium. The process is called primordial nucleosynthesis.

The astrophysicists fired helium nuclei at deuterium at the Laboratory for Underground Nuclear Astrophysics (LUNA) in the Gran Sasso Mountain in Italy. The conditions of heat and speed of the atomic particles produced by the collision are considered to replicate conditions that existed shortly after the Big Bang. The amount of lithium produced was in agreement with theoretical amounts as proposed by the Big Bang theory.

The findings are in agreement with observations from stars in the Milky Way that contain only one-half of the lithium that is expected based on the Big Bang predictions. Previous experiments that were designed to find a different isotope of lithium also failed to produce the amount of lithium expected. Those experiments were conducted at the same facility. The researchers plan to have their work confirmed by other facilities.

Some people may claim that this work proves the Big Bang is an absolute fact . In reality the research proves one part of the Big Bang concept can be replicated in laboratory conditions but not observed in space. Every theory undergoes refinement over time and the Big Bang is no exception.
