Greet the Spirits of Haddon Hall at 28th annual Christmas Revels

See also

Celebrate the Yuletide with friends and family at the 28th annual Christmas Revels, a coveted Bay Area Christmas tradition. For the first time, the Revels' depiction of the Solstice holidays will focus on not a whole country or culture, but a single location: Britain's Haddon Hall pastoral estate.

As usual, California Revels explores the origins of present-day Christmas. In America, it is the Roaring Twenties, but there is no gaiety at Haddon Hall. Its owners, Lord and Lady Manners, have no funds to maintain the house, grounds and staff. What an unfortunate time of year to be faced with the grim prospect of selling their home!

It's time for the Hall's ancestral spirits to step in and save the day. Will Lord Manners make the right decision for the family and its forebears? Come to the Revels and find out.

It’s inconceivable to merely attend the Revels. The audience is a part of the performance from beginning to end. Every year, Revelers of all ages gather to savor quadrilles and poetry, sing 3-part carols and rounds, and more, then dance round the theater with the cast. Lord of the Dance is Revels' signature event and one of its highlights.

To quote David Parr, Artistic Director, [the Revels] "is our refuge from a world that seeks to commodify happiness."

The Revels runs December 13 to 22: Fridays at 8 pm; Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00pm and 5:00 pm, at Scottish Rite Theater (1547 Lakeside Drive, Oakland). Wheelchair seating is available. Tickets are $12 to $55, available at (510) 452-9334 and online.
