Experience history at the Grand Canyon this Thursday night

On Thursday, January 10, 2013, Grand Canyon National Park welcomes visitors to an evening of Living History with President Theodore Roosevelt. At 7:00 p.m., actor Joe Wiegand will perform his one man theatre show, T.R. salutes the National Park Service, in the park’s Shrine of the Ages on the South Rim.

While Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt is best known as the country’s 26th president and a “Rough Rider” in the Spanish-American War, he was also the author of over 30 books and the founder of an early conservation organization. As president, Roosevelt was responsible for declaring some 230 million acres as protected lands within national monuments and parks, wildlife refuges and national forests.

Wiegand is a member of Rotary International and a member of the National Association for Interpretation. He lives in Sewanee, Tenn. when he is not on the road performing his one man show.

The program, which will conclude at 8:15 p.m., is free, but visitors must pay the park’s entrance fee or present a federal interagency pass to enter the park. The Shrine of the Ages is just west of the park’s headquarters building in Grand Canyon Village. For additional information on Thursday’s program, phone (928) 638-7888 or click here.
