Tony Award winner Savion Glover makes his Harris Theater debut on Friday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. with the Chicago premiere of Savion Glover’s STePz, a new dance work conceived and produced by Glover and performed alongside an ensemble of tappers.
STePz, which had its world premiere in 2013, fuses the past with the present by using a variety of music from classical to pop. Joining Glover are tappers Marshall Davis, Jr. and the members of 3 Controversial Women: Ayodele Casel, Robyn Watson and Sarah Savelli.
Glover’s film credits include The Tap Dance Kid, Black & Blue, Jelly’s Last Jam, Bring in ’da Noise, Bring in ’da Funk, Tap with Gregory Hines, Spike Lee’s Bamboozled, and the Academy Award-winning Happy Feet and Happy Feet 2 choreographed by Glover.
Glover’s stop at the Harris also includes Glover & Friends, a special performance on Saturday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. As part of the Harris Theater Family Series, the hour-long program is tailored for families and children ages 4-10. The Access Tickets Program provides more than 200 complimentary tickets will be distributed for the two performances through the Theater’s Access Tickets Program. Recipients include Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts), Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Caring for Kids, Starlight Children’s Foundation Midwest and USO of Illinois.
