If you want to give your teens a faith based education at home then this project will help you. You will need the book by Henry T. Blackaby and Claude V. King. This book and the Bible are the two key materials. Get your teens reading this book and and start a journal each day. One of the key exercises after the Winter leaves is getting them to go outside to read in the yard or the park. Let them explore God in Nature. Let them see Creation in the Trees and in the Birds songs. Spring is around the corner and this is a key activity to do with them. You can let them learn to experience God by reading their Bible daily and letting them meditate on his word. A video by Henry T. Blackaby can let you meditate on how to experience God in your life. Check it out at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJD0mitBhME .
Take Psalms and Proverbs and get them to meditate and journal on their thoughts about those words daily. You might encourage them to pick diverse psalms to journal. Take for example Psalm 23. You can also explore Psalm 102.
Check out Psalm 23 : "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths "
You can let them mediate on this and reflect on what God's message is. Let your homeschool teens journal on the psalms and proverbs daily. Take for example Proverbs 31. Let them meditate on the woman described in this proverb. Check it out : " The Woman Who Fears the Lord
10 [d] An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
11 The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax,
and works with willing hands.
14 She is like the ships of the merchant;
she brings her food from afar.
15 She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
and portions for her maidens.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
17 She dresses herself[e] with strength
and makes her arms strong.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.
19 She puts her hands to the distaff,
and her hands hold the spindle.
20 She opens her hand to the poor
and reaches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
for all her household are clothed in scarlet.[f]
22 She makes bed coverings for herself;
her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates
when he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them"
You can allow your teens to explore God through his words. You can let them learn to develop their reading and analyzing skills by interpreting his word daily. So try this journal project with your teens through Lent and during 2014. Let them also seek further books on Christianity at the Wilkes Public Library .
The Pope recently recommended to Roman Catholic Christians to meditate on the Psalm 102. Therefore its is a great project to get your teens meditating on the word of God in Psalms and Proverbs as well.
