Experience Dishcrawl in San Mateo

What is this Dishcrawl we've been hearing so much about? Their tagline is, "Four restaurants. One night. Infinite fun." -- and that pretty much says it.

To elaborate further, here's a summary: Dishcrawl chooses a city and arranges a group of people to sequentially attend four different restaurants for small dinner dishes at each within a 2.5 hour period. Folks who like to meet new people and eat great food click over to the Dishcrawl website and buy a ticket for the dinner. Two days before the event, Dishcrawl tells everyone where to meet on the upcoming evening. On the night of the Crawl, as many as 50 (or sometimes more) people congregate at the pre-arranged location, eat, talk, and mosey to three other delicious locations to enjoy a night of food, and (hopefully as promised) fun.

San Mateo seems to have been added to the roster recently; the next SM Dishcrawl taking place is Tuesday June 21, 2011 at 7pm. Check their website for a continuously updated list of Dishcrawl locations and for the next San Mateo event.

In addition to a social dinner activity, Dishcrawl has also taken the spirit to the workday with their "Lunch in 60" events where folks sign up to meet en masse for lunch at a local eatery. The mission isn't to explore new worlds and new civilizations, but it's close: "The mission behind the 'Lunch in 60' series is to bring some spice to everyday work while creating an exciting and innovative way to lunch." Surely breaking the monotony of a Monday is almost as fun as using the word "lunch" as a verb, right?

So if you're into being friendly and eating great food, give Dishcrawl a try for a night out in downtown San Mateo (or Palo Alto, or San Francisco...) or stop by to spice up the workday.

P.S. The San Mateo Restaurant Examiner is set to attend the upcoming San Mateo dinner event and will be reporting further on the experience in the near future!
