Beth Dooley, the Communications Director of Wilderness Inquiry, posted the following suggestion with all the important information to help you decide how to plan the perfect paddling adventure. Would you enjoy the quiet and solitude of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) of northern Minnesota?
According to United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), this “Wilderness offers freedom to those who wish to pursue an experience of expansive solitude, challenge and personal integration with nature. Because this area was set aside in 1926 to preserve its primitive character and made a part of the National Wilderness Preservation System in 1964, it allows visitors to canoe, portage and camp in the spirit of the French Voyageurs of 200 years ago.”
If history, preservation, along with the quiet and solitude, perhaps Wilderness Inquiry’s five day Boundary Waters Canoe Area Paddle Adventure might appeal to you.
If you are not interested in (BWCAW), perhaps four days of Kayaking, and Exploring Sea Caves, Lighthouses, and Beaches on the Apostle Islands - Base Camp and Kayak Tour might be the kind of adventure you are looking for.
Maybe you are only interested in a shot day trip then the Mississippi River Day Trip might be more in line with the type of adventure you want to experience. Mississippi National River and Recreation Area (MNRRA) is one of designated National Water Trails.
Beth Dooley also recommended two family-friendly tours. The first is the Glacier National Park Family Adventure, where you can “Experience Old-growth Forests and Glacier-carved Valleys.” This is a six-day adventure, providing you the opportunity to for a guided tour “To travel to trailheads along the famous Going to the Sun Highway, stopping to take in the scenic vistas that make this National Park an American icon.”
The fifth and final suggestion for a summer adventure is also family-friendly, the Yellowstone Family Adventure where you have the opportunity to experience “Visit Geysers, Lakes, Canyons, and Waterfalls” for six days.
