Primeval Whirl, a rollercoaster located in the DinoLand USA section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, attracts thrill seekers. The round ride vehicle cars spin in 360 degrees as the cars make their way up and down the hills and curves of the track of this wild roller coaster.
Each ride vehicle can accommodate four riders. Twin coasters start from the opposite sides of the track as they race through the dizzying maze that includes a trip through the jaws of a dinosaur. Disney’s ride is loosely based on the wild mouse rides from the 1960 and 1970.
Primeval Whirl opened March 31, 2002. Riders must be 48 inches tall to board the ride that lasts one and a half minutes. The thirteen individual ride vehicles are referred to as time machines by the cast members that run the ride.
The back story to the ride is that it was created by created by research-scientist cousins Esther, Fester, Nester and Lester. The ride graphics feature these wacky scientists and fun colorful dinosaurs that are preparing for the end of their world. Thrill seeking Wichitans heading to Walt Disney World this spring should give this ride a try.
