Fun can be had by all at an unique festival that celebrates the virtues of an unusual combo --- wine and fish (specifically walleye). Plan a visit to the 5th annual Wine & Walleye Festival being held along the historic Ashtabula Harbor in Ashtabula, Ohio on Friday, August 23, Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25. It is approximately a one hour drive from Cleveland.
Wine & Walleye Festival Taking place on Bridge St. in the city's harbor district, the Wine & Walleye Festival features such diverse activities like wine tasting and a fishing tournament in addition to a Classic Car Cruise, a 5K run and a Guppy Run for kids and the one event you don't want to miss -- the Lighted Boat Parade on the Ashtabula River (with a theme of "Americana") happening on Saturday evening at 9:15 p.m.
Participating wineries for the wine tasting include Emerine Estates (Jefferson), Ferrante Winery & Ristorante (Geneva) and Harpersfield Vineyard (Geneva). Hours for the wine tasting are 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Friday, noon- 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and noon-6 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. Weekend passes (must be purchased in advance ) are $35. Non-drinker access to the Wine Area is $5. Tickets include 12 wine tasting tickets, a Wine & Walleye wine glass and a promotional bag.
The Walleye Fishing Tournament will take place on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Ashtabula River Public Dock. Over $10,000 worth of cash and prizes will be awarded this year. Competitors will include amateurs and pros.
The Festival will also feature live, musical entertainment provided by the groups The Foud Kings, Good Question and Ernest T. Band.
Of course, there will be lots and lots of food available for purchase including perch and walleye dinners. And by purchasing some of that food you can help the Wine & Walleye Festival as they try to set a Guinness World Record for the most portions of Fish & Chips sold during an 8 hour event. The current record is 12,100 portions and the Wine & Walleye Festival is hoping to sell at least 15,000 portions.
