It’s time to put the finishing touches on your costume, because the 2013 Halloween Block Party on Cedar Springs is just days away! Affectionately known as the “Biggest Street Party in Texas,” this year’s party promises to be bigger and scarier than ever. “We’re expecting a crowd of almost 30,000 people,” says Chris Bengston, on-site events coordinator for Caven Enterprises, the conglomeration that runs some of Dallas’s best gay clubs, like JR’s Bar & Grill and S4. Come rain or shine, the annual party takes place at the intersection of Cedar Springs Road and Throckmorton Street on the Saturday night before Halloween. That’s when the denizens of Dallas are treated to a world-class street party, complete with beverage booths, live music and stages filled with dancers and drag performers. But the best part is the costumes, literally thousands of them, as partiers line up to strut their stuff down the ‘runway.’ “The weather is supposed to be clear so it should be a wonderful and fun night for everyone,” Bengston says. But be warned: the crowd tends to get thick as the party rages on late into the evening. Use extra glue on those costumes and hang on to your wigs because it’s sure to be a bumpy night.
