With a few days left until Christmas, it is the best time to have that “Christmas cheer.” This is why it may seem peculiar to some that tomorrow is Humbug Day. For Chicagoans though, there is definitely some reason to this day this year.
If you’re looking outside your window at the snow falling, it can be dreadful to even think about tomorrow’s commute. Just knowing this is only the start of the snow and ice makes it even worse. Many Chicagoans already got caught in the traffic tonight, but tomorrow is expected to be even worse.
Another reason Humbug Day makes sense tomorrow because it is also the Winter Solstice, which is the shortest day of the year. The winter is a hard time in Chicago, but if it’s dark when you leave for work and dark when you get back, it can be even harder.
So after the extra long commute and barely seeing any sunshine tomorrow, the day could be even worse if you have any last-minute shopping to do. Stores are crowded and many items are picked-over, creating a very stressful environment.
After looking at all these reasons, it’ll be no surprise to hear a couple “Bah Humbugs” tomorrow!
