November 24, the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps FC each drafted 10 players from the MLS unprotected pool. Each MLS team had protected 11 and the rest were exposed. Eight MLS teams lost two players, four teams had one player drafted, and no players were selected from the LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, Houston Dynamo, or New England Revolution.

After the draft, the two expansion teams kicked into high gear wheeling and dealing drafted players, allocation money, and draft picks. Dax McCarty of FC Dallas was the first player selected by Portland, who then dealt him away to DC United with allocation money in exchange for Rodney Wallace and a fourth round draft pick.  The Colorado Rapids re-acquired drafted Anthony Wallace from the Timbers in exchange for allocation money. The Rapids also acquired Sanna Nyassi, who had been drafted from Seattle by Vancouver, for an international roster slot. Seattle acquired O'Brian White from Vancouver for allocation money. Real Salt Lake acquired Arturo Alvarez, who had been drafted from San Jose by Portland, for a second-round Superdraft pick. Alan Gordon, who was drafted from Chivas by Vancouver, was traded back to Chivas with Alejandro Moreno from Vancouver for allocation money and an international spot.

In other news, Toronto FC waived Mista, Gala, Saric, Usanov, and Hscanovics and Chicago Fire released internationals Collins John and Krzysztof Krol. On Monday, Philadelphia Union acquired defender Brian Carroll from the Columbus Crew for a conditional second round draft pick and allocation money.
