“The Pink Floyd & Syd Barrett Story,” an expanded version of a previously available documentary, will be released on two DVDs and digital video on May 20, Eagle Rock Entertainment announced March 26. Originally made in 2001, the documentary now has new bonus material added.
The film explores the life of the late Syd Barrett, lead guitarist and prominent songwriter of the early Pink Floyd. It includes contributions from all members of the group, as well as managers, friends, and others close to Syd. The documentary looks at his songwriting and the stamp he left on the psychedelic music genre. It also discusses his 1968 departure from the band, when his increasingly erratic behavior made his continued participation in the band impossible.
During his time with the band, Barrett crafted such songs as “See Emily Play” and “Arnold Layne,” as well as album tracks such as “Bike” and “Astronomy Domine.” After leaving Pink Floyd, he recorded two solo albums before vanishing from music altogether and retiring. He died in 2006 at the age of 60.
This new set adds the additional interview “Roger Waters On Syd Barrett,” and a second disc with bonus uncut interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright, along with a performance of “Love You” by Graham Coxon.
