Exotic racing makes appearance at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday, March 9

This isn’t something you see every day, not even in Houston, and that's what makes this even more unique.

Sam Houston Race Park is excited to bring back the exotic 2nd Annual Camel and Ostrich Races scheduled for Saturday, March 9. The event will feature four camels and five ostriches all vying for a win at the finish line. The animals will race approximately 100 yards in between live thoroughbred races.

The event is always unpredictable and fun filled said Kyle Brown, senior director of marketing and media relations at SHRP. “This is a really fun and affordable night for families. Last year we hosted more than 12,000 fans in the rain. We can’t predict the weather or what these animals will do once the races begin, but that’s what makes this night one of our favorites at the park,” she said.

Live horse racing begins at 6:30 p.m. Ostrich races are slated for 8 p.m. and camel races are slotted for 9:20 p.m. Times are subject to change.

General admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and children 12 and under are free. Parking is free.

SHRP, located 15 minutes from downtown at 7575 N. Sam Houston Parkway West, offers a variety of attractions including 16 recently renovated luxury suites, The Pavilion Centre and award-winning dining options. More information, www.shrp.com.
