Enzo Ferrari had no formal college education.
Enzo Ferrari is one of the most legendary racing and auto design figures of the 20th century. Growing up fascinated with cars and the idea of creating increasingly faster transportation, he knew more about auto mechanics and engineering than most industry professionals in the world (even today). However, Ferrari had no formal education to prepare him for the world of motorsports. He did, however, grow up with auto work and metal shop training thanks to his father's business. As such, Enzo Ferrari's educational background is a story sure to inspire those students who shy away from traditional book work in favor of getting their hands dirty out in the world.
Enzo Ferrari's Education Background
Enzo Ferrari had no formal engineering experience, in the academic sense. As a youth, he refused to go to technical college, but he did have a strong hands on working background thanks to his childhood. Enzo Ferrari's father owned a metal and motor business, and as any child who has grown up working with a parent who runs a family business (or in a situation where children are able to home educate by spending professional time with parents as interns and assistants), simply being a part of the day to day environment is a homeschool education in and of itself. For that reason, even though it was said that Enzo could not yet read a draftsman's design when he entered the motorsports and auto design field as a young man, those who worked with him reported consistently that he probably already came into the field knowing more than the mechanical and auto engineers of the time. The rest is history, with Enzo Ferrari making himself one of the most influential and well known names in the transportation industry of the 20th century.
