Exotic Car News --

World's Ugliest Supercar now a Transformer! WTF?

Geez -- what is the auto world coming to... the World's Ugliest Supercar -- the Mitsuoka Orochi -- has been made into a toy car model in Japan, one that -- like a Transformer -- turns into a robot.

It is like the ultimate in knock off copycat... first the car, that begged, borrowed, and stole so many design ideas from other supercar models and luxury sports cars that it is a sad parody of even itself.

Now, the Transformers toy idea -- trying to make something cool out of a hot car that's not.

Cnet reports:

Behold the Mitsuoka Orochi. [See photo left]

It's powered by a 3.3-liter, 230 horsepower Toyota Camry V-6; has a power-to-weight ratio somewhere between that of the Honda Civic and a Mini Cooper S; and carries the distinction of being the ugliest supercar ever built. Ever. And if you want the distinction of owning one, it'll cost you about $95,000 and the price of a plane ticket to Japan, or, for about $60, you could pick up a much smaller version that transforms into a robot.

User kenji on the Transformers enthusiast forum HK-TF has posted preview photos of the upcoming Transformers: Alternity Skywarp by Takara Tomy, the Japanese owner of the popular Transformers line of toys and cartoons.

If you've been living under a rock for the last 20 years, Transformers are giant robots that, well, transform into vehicles. However, rather than transforming into the jet that many of us remember from the 1980s cartoon series, this revision of the Skywarp character transforms from the oddball Mitsuoka Orochi into an evil robot. The action figure comes in two paint jobs: purple pearl for Skywarp and white pearl for his twin, Starscream.

Personally, if it were me -- I would not be running out to get my kids one to play with, as the look of the original supercar is -- well, for lack of a better word -- atrocious.

I also would not be impressed myself if I were a child. While back in the day, I hated playing with Barbies and dolls -- and could not think of any worse lifestyle than growing up to have a bunch of kids and spending my days slaving away cleaning house, cooking meals, and playing taxi driver as a typical pedantic housewife -- I still had enough common sense and good taste to pick my toy cars wisely.

When looking at Hot Wheels, every car that was a vintage model, highly collectible, or represented a vintage automobile with character inspired me. So did wanting to race cars against one another... and yes, this does date my age but when I was a little girl and the movie GREASE first hit the big screen I wanted to be Danny -- but dress and look like naughty Sandy.

[I did pretty well with that plan, by the way -- as middle school and high school photos show... and I have been riding around with boys and driving around in hot cars since the age of 13.]

To get a toy car that represents a car without meaning would have been uninteresting to me. To have that same car turn into a robot?

Let's just say that if I had such a toy back in the day, my Steve Austin Bionic Man doll and Stretch Armstrong would have plotted against said robot and destroyed in outside in the yard by some totally viscous and over the top means... and I would not be here today because my mom probably would have killed me for breaking a new toy that is likely to be expensive.

Fortunately, the car will not make it to the big screen in Transformers 3.

Neither will pinup girl Megan Fox, by the way.

The girl who auditioned for the part by washing Michael Bay's Ferrari at his celebrity home in California has been fired.

Word today in the Sci-Fi movie and celebrity gossip scene is that Fox will have her character replaced by a new love interest -- to be played by acting newcomer and Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington - Whiteley, a former reality television star on the series Brittan's Top Model.

After she plays the role, expect to see her pinup girl poses in garage wall calendar photos and desktop wall paper and screen savers the same way Fox dominated thanks to photo spreads in mens magazine's next year.

American reality television actress Heidi Montag did not get the part -- but she did make a home made audition tape for it.

How great was she as she tried to emulate an action adventure movie heroine? About as successful as the Mitsuoka Orochi at being a hot looking supercar.
