This week three special exhibits opened at the state of the art National World War I Museum in the Liberty Memorial. The museum admission price allows guests to enjoy the permanent collection and all three special exhibits.
Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace, pairs 42 of Snoopy’s adventures with vintage objects related to World War I aviation; including a tunic like the one worn by the Red Baron. Snoopy will be in the permanent gallery until November 29th.
The First World War in Color features artifacts acquired since the museum opened in 2006. The exhibit shows the contrast between the colorful uniforms and personal objects with the black and white photos that are all most of us know of the war. The exhibit will be in the Exhibit Hall till September 1, 2010.
The third special exhibit is Gary Cooper’s Academy Award for the film Sergeant York. Gary Cooper was the only man Alvin York would trust with the telling of his story on film. Getting Cooper to play him was a deal breaker for his authorization of the film. Cooper’s daughter loaned her father’s Oscar to the museum for the exhibit. It will be on display until November 29, 2009.
Here's a short video of one of Snoopy's "dog fights" as the World War I Flying Ace.
