At the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek, a new exhibition will represent something that is very essential to all of us, the sky.
Opening this Sunday, and known as Sky, this is a national juried exhibition, meaning that although the majority of the artists are from the Bay Area including San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, and Alameda, there are also artists from other parts of this nation including New York City, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Chicago, Illinois, and Dayton, Ohio. Presiding as juror for the exhibition is San Francisco-based writer and critic DeWitt Cheng, and Elizabeth Ferrer, director of Contemporary Art, BRIC in Brooklyn, NY.
Samples of this exhibition can be seen on Bedford Gallery’s website at www.bedfordgallery.org, and they all give an idea of what’s to come in the featured works, exploring the sky’s representations, both atmospheric and conceptual, and in a diverse range of medias including painting, photography, and installation. The images is expected to range from dramatic and serine (such as the photograph Dream 7 from Amy Evans of New Jersey), simple (such as the oil on canvas Paynes Plume from Rachel Sager of San Francisco), or even abstract and surreal (such as the installation The Cloud Room from Laura Van Duren of Oakland).
Bedford Gallery will also invite visitors for the opening reception, around the same time the exhibition opens. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Sky: A National Juried Exhibition will be on view until May 25th.
