Spring is so close. Yet - it's still so far away! Most of us are itching to get out and take a walk outside. Unfortunately, we probably have a good 6 weeks before the weather will allow us to get out there and exercise outdoors. In the meantime, here are some alternatives on what you can do inside during these last few weeks of winter.

  • Mall walk - Colonie Center and Crossgates Mall are great malls to do some indoor walking. Both malls are big enough that you can get at least 1-2 miles in and you can even do some window shopping.
  • Ballroom Dancing - There are great dance studios in the Albany area. Albany Ballroom School of Dance, Fred Astaire Dance Studio and DDB School of Ballroom Dancing are three studios that will allow you go take some lessons and get some exercise!

  • Swim - Find an indoor pool like the one at the Rudy Cicotti Center in Colonie and take an aquatics class.

  • Get DVD's for home exercise. Or check out "Exercise on Demand" on Time Warner Cable. They have great exercise options for any level.

  • Utilize what you have in your house. Does your house have two stories? Walk up and down the stairs for 15 minutes. Use hand weights and flex your muscles. Throw on some music on your stereo and have your own private dance party.

  • Join an intramural sports team. The options are endless - volleyball, handball, basketball or soccer, and the list goes on and on.

  • Sign up for a martial arts class like judo or tae kwon do.

  • Splurge and buy Wii Fit. The game is a fun alternative to the usual DVD workout. You can also get your partner involved and exercise together.
