Persons opposed to Obamacare – the Affordable Care Act – are planning an Exempt America from Obamacare rally to promote the defunding of the new federal law and program, according to Politico on Monday. The rally is slated for Sept. 10 – the day the United States Congress reconvenes after their late summer break.
The rally, to occur only three weeks before Americans without insurance are supposed to start signing up for insurance coverage, will feature Senators Rand Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas, and Mike Lee of Utah. The event is being organized by a group called For America, the Tea Party Patriots, and a host of other conservative groups.
Organizers are claiming that Democrats will stop at nothing to protect President Barack Obama’s signature legislation, and they say that too many Republicans are afraid to fight against it. The organizers also are vehemently opposed to the United States’ Office of Personnel Management ruling earlier in August which allows the federal government to continue subsidizing health care plans for lawmakers and their aides – in spite of Obamacare’s specific rules when the legislation was passed.
There were eighty members of the United States’ House of Representatives who signed a letter last week in which they asked the United States Congress to defund Obamacare. Yet, the Republican establishment is leery of chancing a government shutdown over the Obamacare battle.
