The slideshow below has some of the 3D animation "Yellow Submarine" items that will be offered at 6 p.m. ET on QVC.
Jon Blosdale, artist-owner of Dennilou Co., which holds the official license for the items, initially wanted to work with images from the Beatles cartoon show when they first were awarded their licenses six years ago, but Apple Corps Ltd. wasn't keen on the idea.
"I said I can recreate the animation cells, since there's no production cells to speak of circulating that would create new merchandise because of the artwork," he said. "So that's how that came about."
Later on, they asked him if he'd like to tackle "Yellow Submarine." "I thought how am I going to recreate something's that's already been established and then out there? I came up with the first thing, which was the 'Yellow Submarine' album cover. And instead of making an animation cell of the cover, I decided to do it in triple layers. It's got two cells and they're all spaced and when you look at it, it's got a 3D look. So Apple said, 'This is great.'"
Blosdale says he's the only one Apple Corps has allowed to have a little creative license with the characters. "We've seen all those iconic images from the movie. I'll find something that we have seen before that's been a long shot, maybe like George standing on the hill when they open the door. I've been able to extract those characters and put them in as a composite and make a new piece of artwork."
The "Yellow Submarine" items are to sell for $49.95 each.
"Apple has put nothing but support behind this with me and everybody loves it," he said. "Hopefully, it'll be a winner."

Sorry to say but these things gross me out, my own personal preference would be to see Apple Corp focus more on the MUSIC.."Let it be" the DVD, "Hollywood Bowl" the CD etc. this stuff will most likely be collectors items in the year 2100...in other words....you and I won't be alive.
I agree totally! Apple should focus more on the Music and Video for current and future Beatles product. LIB DVD, Shea, Promo Videos, more Audio Rarities etc., Does anyone really care about more newly made memorabilia? There's already a ton of it, along with the original 60's stuff sitting around gathering dust!
Do Beatles fans really need more of this stuff? It's The Beatles music and films that really matter! Not Apple's lame and repetitive attempt at re- merchandising of The Fabs! Give the fans what they really want and deserve! UNRELEASED AND UNAVAILABLE MATERIAL IN THE BEST POSSIBLE QUALITY!!
I thought it was going to be collectibles from the new 3-D movie...
I do hope they try to make the Beatles look more real in the CGI production rather than 3-D blow- ups of the original cartoon.
I bought all 4 last week. Arrived Friday and hanging on the wall today. I really didn't know what to expect, but this is art! ...and at $49 bucks each! I hope this company comes out with more.
I have to agree with Todd. I've seen these, and they are really beyond cool. I think you've got to see them in person because this photo does not do them justice. Jon Blosdale, the artist, is meticulous in his work. Just buy all 4, you will not be disappointed.
I'm a huge Yellow Sub fan and I first thought these were from the new 3D movie...(is that still happening?)...anyway, I ordered the All You Is Love one, got it and really think it's cool. It's different. Don't care about the collectable aspect 40-75 years from now. Makes me smile when I look at it. Peace.
