Chicago-- If there has been a more beautiful venue in North America than the Chicago theater for a UFC weigh-in, I haven’t seen it.
Today in front of a packed house just a few blocks from Lake Michigan, Chicagoan’s got their first look at the fighters of the UFC on FOX 2 fight card, as they tipped the scales for their respective bouts.
The 91-year-old building was oozing with history as the glowing ambience of fight week was in full effect. All fighters made weight without incident, and the crowd was sure to voice it’s pleasure—or in some cases, displeasure—for their favorite fighters.
In no real shocker, the brash Brit Michael Bisping received the loudest chorus of boos from the Midwest faithful. As Bisping approached the runway the ovation grew louder and louder, and in typical Bisping fashion he decided to flip the double bird to the ornery group.
In a more polite showing, Rashad Evans tipped the scales to a litany of boos, but handled the situation with a bit more composure. Smiling and waving to the crowd, Evans took the negative reception in jest and promised a dominating performance against opponent Phil Davis.
Davis, draped in a Penn State singlet looked in amazing shape. With his G.I. Joe body in tow, Davis towered over the Chicago Theater stage, and certainly announced his presence to the adoring crowd.
UFC on FOX is tomorrow, January 28th from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The preliminary portion of the card airs on FUEL TV at 3:30 p.m. CT, and the live FOX portion kicks off at 7 p.m. CT.
